September 8, 2006 - UIS professor honored as founding editor of national journal

SPRINGFIELD – Christopher Mooney, professor of Political Studies at the University of Illinois at Springfield, was recently recognized for his work as founding editor of the State Politics & Policy Quarterly with a reception in his honor. The reception, part of the annual meeting of the American Political Science Association held in Philadelphia, was hosted by APSA's Public Policy and Policy Studies Organization sections.

SPPQ is a leading national journal of comparative state politics and is the official journal of APSA's State Politics and Policy organized section.

A publication of UIS' Institute for Legislative Studies and the Institute of Government and Public Affairs at the U of I, SPPQ was founded in 2001 with the mission of stimulating research on state politics and policy and providing a structure for developing research in the field. In 2005 it was selected for inclusion in Thompson/ISI's Social Science Citation Index, one of the most prestigious academic journal indexing services in the world.

At UIS, Mooney has also served as director of the Illinois Legislative Studies Center and currently holds an appointment as research associate in the Institute for Legislative Studies. This spring he received the fifth annual Faculty Excellence Award, which recognizes sustained, career-long accomplishments in teaching and scholarship.

The American Political Science Association is the leading professional organization for the study of political science and serves more than 15,000 members in over 80 countries.
