January 25, 2006 - Vinicky rejoins WUIS Statehouse Bureau

SPRINGFIELD – Amanda Vinicky, most recently of Iowa City, Iowa, will rejoin Public Radio WUIS 91.9FM –WIPA 89.3FM as a reporter for the WUIS Statehouse Bureau and the Illinois Public Radio news network in February.

WUIS-WIPA listeners are already familiar with Vinicky, who served an internship with the station covering the 2005 spring legislative session as part of her work toward a master’s degree in Public Affairs Reporting at the University of Illinois at Springfield. She has worked as a news producer with the National Public radio affiliate in Iowa City since receiving her PAR degree.

“Amanda has a thorough grasp of current Statehouse issues and brings a lot of good ideas to the job,” said WUIS News Director Rich Bradley.

“I’m excited to return to Springfield to cover the legislature as a full-time reporter,” said Vinicky. “I’m passionate about journalism, committed to public radio, and I hope my stories will demonstrate to WUIS listeners how policy decisions made at the Capitol affect their lives.”

Vinicky previously worked as a staff writer for The Doings newspaper in Hinsdale and as a correspondent for the Arlington Heights-based Daily Herald. Previous internships include stints at WLFD-TV in Chicago, CLTV in Oakbrook, and another with members of Parliament in London, England.

Vinicky graduated from the U of I in Urbana-Champaign in 2003 with a bachelor of science in journalism and a bachelor of arts in political science. At UIUC, she wrote for The Daily Illini; was a news anchor and host for WPGU-FM, the student-run radio station; and helped reactivate a student chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists. She is the recipient of several awards and scholarships for journalism and communication, photography, and leadership. The Northern Illinois Newspaper Association chose Vinicky’s article on recycling efforts at the Argonne National Laboratory as best science/technology story of 2005.
