October 27, 2005 - Center hosts the 2005 Lincoln Legacy Lecture Series

The Center and Phillip Shaw Paludan, Naomi B. Lynn Distinguished Chair of Lincoln Studies at UIS, hosted the 2005 Lincoln Legacy Lecture Series at UIS. The series began on October 13 with Professor Allen C. Guelzo speaking on “Lincoln’s Declaration of Economic Independence.” Guelzo is the director of Civil War Era Studies and the Associate Director of the Civil War Institute at Gettysburg College. Michael F. Holt, Professor of American History at the University of Virginia, spoke on October 20 on “Lincoln’s Whigs: Expanding Economic Opportunities.” The series concluded with Professor Gabor S. Boritt, Professor of History and the Director of the Civil War Institute at Gettysburg College, speaking on “Lincoln and the Right to Rise” on October 26. About 500 persons attended over the course of the series. The series was videotaped and a three-set DVD is available for purchase from the Office of Electronic Media. Call 206-6799.
