Safe Chemicals in Schools Online Training
The Safe Chemicals in Schools Online Training is a dynamic, multi-media online course where educators and administrators can learn about the proper use, storage, and disposal of chemicals in the classroom. Training topics include: an emphasis on safely handling hazardous chemicals, how to physically store chemicals in the school, microscale techniques, proper purchasing, and how state learning standards can be used to teach science safety more effectively.
The Safe Chemicals in Schools Online Training was created by the Illinois Department of Public Health through a grant from US EPA. As a face-to-face workshop, this training has been a successful environmental education program for teachers and administrators. It was converted into an online format to increase access for participants throughout Illinois.
The Safe Chemicals in Schools Online Training is coordinated by the Institute for Legal, Legislative and Policy Studies at the University of Illinois Springfield, and is conducted by the Illinois Department of Public Health. The online training consists of four consecutive modules. Participants progress through each module sequentially, completing an assessment after each module before progressing onto the next. Upon successful completion of the training, each participant receives a certificate of completion and four Continuing Professional Development units through the Illinois State Board of Education.
