SPRING 2007: The Illinois Motorist Survey
For the seventh consecutive year, the SRO conducted a Motorist Public Opinion Survey for the Illinois Department of Transportation. The survey included mailing 3,800 questionnaires to randomly selected households throughout Illinois.
This year's survey had a cooperation rate of almost 40 percent. Topics in this year's survey included: licensed drivers' satisfaction with Illinois state roads and interstates and with IDOT; opinions about transportation priorities; perceptions and attitudes about traffic congestion and ways to alleviate it; and sources of opinions regarding IDOT. The Department of Transportation uses the annual Illinois Motorist Survey to inform its strategic planning, decision-making and assessment activities.
OVERLAPPING FY 2007 AND FY 2008: Needs Assessment Surveys for Statewide Independent Living Council of Illinois
In 2007, the SRO conducted a survey of the needs of people with disabilities in Illinois for the Statewide Independent Living Council of Illinois. This project included surveying consumers of the 23 independent living centers that are located in Illinois as well as surveying non-consumer residents of Illinois.
Workforce Investment Act (WIA) Satisfaction Surveys
In June 2007, SRO completed its fourth year of surveying clients and employers involved with the Workforce Investment Act program for the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity. In each of the past four years, SRO has surveyed about 2,600 clients and about 700 employers who received program services to measure their satisfaction. This project is part of the federally-mandated performance evaluation of Illinois' program implementation.
Seat Belt and DUI initiative Surveys
SRO is continuing its work with the Illinois Department of Transportation's Division of Traffic Safety. In conjunction with enforcement and media campaigns relating to both seat belt and DUI initiatives, the office conducts pre-and post-campaign surveys to measure changes in reported awareness of campaign messages and activities and in motorists' opinions and behaviors. Included in last year's project were surveys connected with the largest seat belt "Click It or Ticket" initiative ever, occurring over the Memorial Day weekend.
Tri Shark Triathlon Post Race Satisfaction Survey
SRO worked with Dr. Paul McDevitt, faculty member in the UIS College of Business and Management, in conducting a post-race satisfaction survey of participants in the Tri Shark Triathlon race, held June 2, 2007, in Bloomington, Illinois.
Public Awareness of Radon
In the Spring of 2007, SRO completed a survey of the Illinois public's awareness of radon and behaviors relating to radon. Tables summarizing the results were sent to the project director. (See the related item about the October 2007 radon awareness survey in the FY 2008 Project list).
