The UIS Survey Research Office is cooperating with colleagues in the UIS Center for State Policy and Leadership in conducting a follow-up survey of civic engagement in Illinois. The benchmark survey was conducted eight years ago. Interviewing will begin in mid-May 2009.

The survey asks questions about a variety of ways that the public is involved, both civically and politically. The survey also explores the motivations for involvement as well as barriers to involvement. A particular focus of concern for the current survey is the impact of the Internet on civic engagement.

Field interviewing for the full version of the survey was completed in late July. A shorter version of the survey is currently in the field, with completion scheduled for early August.

Tentatively, results are scheduled for release sometime in October, or perhaps November.

A more detailed description of the 2001 benchmark Civic Engagement Project can be found here -- as well as a link to its findings.
