Sangamon County Business Economic Outlook Survey

The Sangamon County Business Economic Outlook Survey is a joint venture of the Greater Springfield Chamber of Commerce and the University of Illinois at Springfield. It is a biannual vehicle to assess the economic outlook of businesses and non-profit organizations in Sangamon County.

The March 2009 survey. The most recent survey was conducted in late February through the middle of March, 2009.

The September 2008 survey. The second survey was conducted in late August through the third week of September, 2008.

The inaugural survey. The inaugural survey was conducted in late February/March, 2008. A summary of the results were released at the Chamber's Economic Outlook Breakfast on March 27, 2008.

The Greater Springfield Enterprise Index

Another measure of the local economy introduced at the March, 2008 Economic Outlook Breakfast was the Greater Springfield Enterprise Index (the SEI). This measure is based on objective economic indicators and is a "leading indicator" of the local economy. It was developed and created by the Regional Economic Applications Laboratory, Institute of Government and Public Affairs, University of Illinois.
