DUI Service Provider Training - Advanced
ASAM Criteria Training
Typically, counselors encounter numerous difficulties in completing an accurate evaluation of a person who has been charged with Driving Under the Influence (DUI). In this workshop, we review the criteria created by the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) to place clients in their appropriate levels of care. Special attention is focused on the six ASAM dimensions, especially the client’s readiness to change, relapse potential, and recovery environment. Workshop participants are offered numerous opportunities to interact in discussions on case studies and special challenges in DUI evaluation.

Motivational Interviewing
In this training, participants will learn principles of motivational interviewing (MI) to prepare clients to develop the internal motivation to change. Through demonstration vignettes, video clips and experiential exercises, clients will learn to engage in “the spirit of MI,” practice reflective listening skills, listen for change talk, roll with resistance, and utilize other MI techniques.
