Downstate Illinois Innocence Project®
Neil Buono
Neil is doing his AST with us this semester and continuing through next semester as well. He will be graduating next spring with a Bachelor's degree in Political Science and then plans to go to law school.
He credits taking "Conviction of the Innocent" in Fall '08 with piquing his interest in criminal defense and the realization that there is no safety net for catching wrongful convictions.
Proclaiming that he wanted an AST where he would learn more than "how to run a copier," he felt that working with the Downstate Innocence Project would afford him the opportunity to explore the day-to-day life of working with the law and the justice system.
While assisting Bill Clutter, Director of Investigations, with the Slover and McMillen cases, Neil will be attending court proceedings, interviewing witnesses, assisting with field investigations, working with the pro-bono attorneys on the cases, and examining and analyzing case files and documents.
