Carol Esarey M.Ed., Ed.S., Senior Training Coordinator
Carol Esarey, M.S., Ed.S, served as the Senior Training Director for 15 years for the Institute for Legal and Policy Studies, University of Illinois @ Springfield and as the Interim Director for the Institute in the fall of 2004 before retiring from full time employment at the university. Responsible for major grant development within the Institute, her major duties included the administration and management of state and federal training grants for Illinois state agencies and associations seeking research and training development resources from the university.
She directed a fee-based DUI Training Program in cooperation with the Department of Human Services, Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse for 14 years. Subsequent projects in the area of traffic safety and DUI include the development of a complex combination of related projects under the auspices of the Illinois Department of Transportation, Division of Traffic Safety, including development of DUI programs for probation officers, state’s attorneys and prosecutors, and the judiciary. Other areas of grant involvement have included the development and coordination of customized credit and non-credit bearing courses for the Department of Commerce and Economic Development, the Department of Human Services, the Secretary of State, and the Illinois State Police. Working with a team of law enforcement officers, judges, prosecutors and Institute colleagues she was the project director for the development and distribution of Meth: A Reference Guide for Illinois Law Enforcement and Courts, a first of its kind resource for court personnel.
Working with multiple agencies, individuals and interests led her to service in the areas of conflict resolution and facilitation with groups in community and state programmatic strategic planning. Recent facilitation projects include Springfield 20/20; DCFS strategic planning for training staff; IDOT Alcohol Forum facilitation, and the Dialogue on Poverty 2006. Her prior experience includes over ten years as a protective service worker and State Office Administrator for the Illinois Collaboration on Youth. She continues to hold Illinois teaching and counseling and guidance certificates.
She continues to be responsible for the design, development and presentation of training programs covering a broad range of social service, workforce development, and human service provider agencies in the private and public sector.
