ASUDS-RI

FAQs for Certified DUI Evaluators:

Question: How to I get the test?
Answer: Evaluators can get a copy of the test only through attendance at a training program offered through the University of Illinois at Springfield. (provide a list or link to the list for the trainings)

Question: Is it acceptable for me to use the test while Rule 2060 requires use of either the Mortimer-Filkins or DRI-II?
Answer: The DHS-DASA is in the process of revising Rule 2060. The proposed rule change language includes the ASUDS-RI as a third instrument option. For those who attend training and receive a copy of the test prior to the rule change becoming effective, an exception request can be sent to DASA to obtain permission for use. Information regarding the exception request procedure will be available at the trainings.

Question: How do I load the test?
Answer: The test will be distributed on a CD that contains the computer module, the paper version, the User’s Guide, and the Spanish paper version. The computer module from the CD can be placed onto any hard drive simply by copying and pasting the entire ASUDS-RI folder from the CD to the desired location on the hard drive. In addition, you will need to create a folder on the hard drive for the completed test, open the main ASUDS-RI folder, copy the entire folder entitled “graphics” and paste it into the folder created for the completed tests. This process will ensure that the graphics display correctly when the saved outputs are accessed at a later time.

Question: Is any special software necessary for use of the ASUDS-RI computer module?
Answer: The computer module utilizes your computer’s web browser. No internet connection or access is required; however, the computer must have a web browser (e.g. Internet Explorer).

Question: What if my output won’t display when the test is completed?
Answer: The computer module utilizes the web browser. The browser will treat the output screen as a pop-up. You will need to ensure that your pop-up blocker allows the pop-up. You can do this either by clicking on the information bar at the top of the screen and selecting “Allow blocked content” or in Internet Explorer, go to the Menu Bar at the top and select: Tools, Internet Options. Click on the Advanced Tab and scroll down to the Security selection. Check “allow active content to run in files on My Computer.”

Question: What if the output runs off the page when I print?
Answer: If you have a problem with the edges not appearing when you print, you may need to adjust your margins to ensure the entire output prints properly. You can do this through the “Page Set Up” menu in the “File” dropdown.

Question: What if my output does not save when I try to save it?
Answer: Because the computer module operates on your internet browser, if you simply hit save it will save the original blank test. In order to save the output of an assessment, choose “Save as” from the “file” dropdown on the menu bar in the browser, change the file type to “Web page, HTML only” and choose the location that you have set-up for your saved completed assessments.

Question: What if the graphics don’t appear on a saved output file?
Answer: You will need to create a folder on the hard drive for the completed test, open the main ASUDS-RI folder, copy the entire folder entitled “graphics” and paste it into the folder created for the completed tests. This process will ensure that the graphics display correctly when the saved outputs are accessed at a later time.

Question: What do I enter into the DUI Service Reporting System (DSRS)?
Answer: In the output screen, it gives you a level on a scale of 1 to 4. You simply enter this number into the DSRS screen space for the ASUDS-RI. The Uniform Report will automatically print both the level and the corresponding suggested services.

Question: Do I need a new version of the DSRS for use of the ASUDS-RI?
Answer: Yes, once you have completed the ASUDS-RI training and received the necessary Rule 2060 exception from DHS-DASA, you will need to download the latest version of the DSRS. This will be made available to you on scheduled dates following the training. You will receive information about this download from DHS-DASA when it is available for you.

Question: Are there versions of the ASUDS-RI in other languages?
Answer: There is currently a Spanish version available on the CD.

Question: Where do I find information about interpreting the scales?
Answer: Please see pages 12 - 28 of the ASUDS-RI User’s Guide found on the CD.
