Sick Leave & Floating Holiday Information

All GPSI intern earn non-compensable, non-accumulative sick leave and floating holiday (personal use) hours based on the terms of the GPSI contract period. Interns who resign or are terminated are not compensated for unused leave hours.

The number of sick leave and floating holiday hours are noted below. The total will vary depending on the contractual start and end dates. Second year interns who receive an extended contract from May 15 to June 30 -- accrue no additional sick leave or floating holiday hours.

Sick leave hours can only be used for illnesses or medical reasons for either the intern or a member of the immediate family (spouse and/or children.)  When possible, interns must obtain prior approval from the supervisor to use sick leave hours.  (i.e. doctor appointments, dentist appointments).

Floating holiday hours may be used for personal use to be absent from the workplace.

Sick leave and floating holiday hours are tracked by the GPSI office. To use allotted leave hours interns are required to complete a leave authorization form either before or after the absence. The form must be signed by the supervisor and either faxed or delivered to the GPSI office. Click here to access the .pdf verion of the sick leave form. Click here to access the Microsoft Word format.
